This self-portrait series explores self-discovery through an experimental, process-driven approach. Cropped facial features are encased in individual ice cubes, stacked vertically to challenge traditional portraiture.
The frozen features serve as a creative conceit for the different facets of the self, while the melting ice introduces a shifting, ephemeral quality that reflects the fluidity of identity. Heat or light interacting with the ice subtly suggests the presence of “fire,” creating a tension between opposing forces cold and warmth, stillness and intensity; that mirrors inner contradictions.
Continuing my process-based practice, the work embraces chance, vulnerability, and impermanence. The interplay between frozen and melting elements, ice and fire, invites reflection on transformation, entropy, and the evolving self.
