Life Death Entropy
In this project, the scanner serves as a tool to stretch the boundaries of time and space. Katie uses it to scan various objects, both living and inanimate, at different stages of their life cycle. Flowers in full bloom, leaves withering away, and even decaying organic matter are meticulously scanned to create an abstract and mesmerizing representation of existence's ephemerality. These elongated images symbolise the infinite passage of time, reminding us of life's impermanence.
The concept of entropy, the gradual deterioration of order and structure in the universe, is artfully interwoven into the project. As the images elongate, they metaphorically represent the unyielding force of entropy, as all things eventually return to chaos and dissolution. This theme prompts viewers to reflect on the natural decay and regeneration inherent in life and the universe itself.
"Life, Death, and Entropy" is the heart of this project, inviting audiences to explore the beauty in impermanence and find solace in the cyclical nature of existence. The elongated images convey a sense of timelessness, blurring the boundaries between the past, present, and future, and challenge viewers to ponder the intricate relationship between life, death, and the ever-encroaching force of entropy.
